Therapeutic Process

Walk Through the Wilds of the Mind

I believe that therapy is about finding a safe place in which you can effectively explore the stressors and barriers of life that are keeping you from being what you wish to be. I strive to build genuine relationships with my clients where we can safely have difficult conversations, have and resolve conflicts, be honest with oneself, including your pain; and work through whatever it is that has been holding you back. I am here to be your safe place and sounding board to discover what those barriers have been, identify and move past any unhealthy coping strategies, and help you build your own toolbox of skills and strategies that are specifically designed to meet your needs in life and help you be more successful. I utilize a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with Brief Solutions Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, as well as other evidence-based models, to help you find the key to your own inner workings.

Therapy can create great outcomes, but one must do the work and walk through the ‘wilds’ of the mind; and sometimes into dark areas to get to that better place. During therapy, it is not uncommon to become triggered when working on sensitive or traumatic issues.  You might notice changes in your symptoms, problems, and functioning. Since we will be exploring challenging territory in your life, you might experience greater difficulty throughout our work.  These are the moments that test you, that change you.  I ask that you work with me to identify if/when this occurs so that we can proactively address these issues and utilize crisis diversion efforts before the discomfort becomes overwhelming.  Therapy typically produces benefits over time, but sometimes as you get to the root of tender issues, you may feel them even more acutely than in the past. I cannot offer any promise or guarantee about the results you will experience. However, as you commit yourself to work through your vulnerable issues, and build upon your strengths, it is likely that you will see improvements throughout our work and continue to experience that growth into the future.

I work with all my clients on a reoccurring, weekly basis; or as clinically determined to best meet the needs of each individual client. If you cancel several sessions, which I perceive as a barrier to a positive therapeutic process, I will ask that you be removed from your recurring appointment slot and be placed on my on-call list. The on-call list creates sessions based on cancelations. I will reach out to you by phone as those times become available. If you do not show up to your appointment without notifying me, all your future appointments will be canceled until I hear from you.
